Favor Charitable Foundation and Miriane Union start an all-Ukrainian mission LOVE WINS to help the victims of hostilities

With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, the Tabor Charitable Foundation and the Miriane Union, together with the Social Ministry Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, announce the launch of the all-Ukrainian charitable mission LOVE WINS, aimed to provide direct assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and all victims of hostilities.

The objective of the mission is to provide the maximum number of people, who have lost their homes and jobs, with food and medicine.

Everyone, regardless of citizenship and religion, can take part in the mission as a volunteer or receive help according to their needs.

Because of the warfare, more than 4 million Ukrainians have already left the country to become refugees in Europe. The European Union is currently facing a migration shock, which is spoken of all over the world. However, much less often it is said that due to Russian aggression, by the end of March 2022, over 6.5 million people, who had fled their homes to other regions of Ukraine less affected by hostilities, became internally displaced. Think about it – 6.5 million internally displaced persons make up one sixth of the country’s population*. In addition, this number is growing.

Millions of people have lost not only their homes and normal routine, but also their source of income. Most of them do not have savings, and even if they do, their savings keep melting every day.

They do need help. The goal of the LOVE WINS mission is to provide the needy migrants with food and medicine, to help them survive this difficult period before they can return to a normal peaceful life.

The Church and Her faithful have everything to take on this task with God’s help.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a living network of representations in all regions of Ukraine, more than 12,000 parishes and monasteries, which are currently rendering all possible assistance.

The UOC has extensive ties with fraternal Local Orthodox Churches and international organizations, which are ready to lend a helping hand to the afflicted Ukrainian people. Moreover, many do not stand aside and actively help from the first days of the war.

The third is the extensive expertise of the Tabor Foundation and the Synodal Department for Social and Humanitarian Affairs of the UOC in charitable activities, notably the experience of providing humanitarian assistance to residents of the ATO / JFO zone.

Recall that in the midst of hostilities in the Donbas in 2014-2016, the Tabor Foundation created six public canteens at the temples of the UOC in Donetsk, Makeyevka, Zhdanovka, which provided daily nutrition to 600 people for a year and a half. Nearly 10,000 monthly food packages were delivered to local residents during this time.

Under the auspices of the UOC, the most versatile support went to civilians in the war zone in the East. Today, a far greater number of people needs such help. Thousands of priests and parishioners have already joined in humanitarian work, while tens of thousands more are ready to do this at the call of their hearts and their Church.

Above all, there is a blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, for the implementation of the work of the LOVE WINS mission.

The mission works in three areas:

1. Organization of hot meals at the temples and monasteries of the UOC;

2. Distribution of weekly food packages for migrants at the temples of the UOC;

3. Provision of medical supplies in the form of monthly kits of the most necessary medication.

Based on the Tabor Foundation’s expertise in assisting residents of the Donbas frontline areas, we calculated the average cost of one hot lunch and came up with a model of a weekly food basket for one person.

Lunches will be prepared at temples and monasteries. A number of temples have already organized regular meals for refugees and vulnerable categories of the population. There will also be distributed food packages for migrants. One such package allows an adult to have a normal weekly nutrition.

The third area is supposed to provide those in need with the most necessary medicines.

Volunteers of the Miriane union, priests and parishioners of the UOC will establish rosters in their regions of those in need and their needs. The scope of deliveries to each diocese, each district and parish will be formed in accordance with these applications. At the same time, medication lists will be drawn up for each locality and parish.

The lists will be transferred to the mission’s humanitarian centers to form supplies and send aid to the regions.

In turn, the Tabor Foundation collects donations for the purchase of foods and medicines. Reports on the work of the mission will be posted on the foundation’s website.

It is important that products will be purchased in Ukraine from domestic producers in order to support not only refugees, but also the economy of our country. At the same time, the mission is open to receiving direct food aid from foreign benefactors.

Since the first days of the warfare, many Local Orthodox Churches have greatly supported Ukraine through their church channels, sending trucks with foodstuffs and things across the border. We will always be grateful to our brothers and sisters for this good cause.

We want to build a systematic work with donors, remove the organizational burden from them and make assistance targeted and maximally adequate to the needs of each locality.

In addition, we want to involve as many Orthodox and secular organizations as possible, as well as ordinary merciful people worldwide.

All this will be possible with your active on-site assistance, dear brothers and sisters, laity and clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church! Therefore, we ask you to fully support the work of the mission volunteers, to promote and assist it, and to engage in it personally to the best of your ability.

How to help? Help us collect information about the needs of refugees in your communities and share information about the LOVE WINS mission on social networks! This is really important!

You can also make whatever donation you can.

But first of all, we call on all Christians and people of good will across the world who want to help the civilians of Ukraine. We count on your support! It is very necessary!

We believe that we can do it together. Love always wins.
